New Century House

A harrowing story told by a woman who has lived with a dark secret for 25 years. Set in the decaying bathroom of her dead Mother's house the performance unpacks an unbearable burden. But Louise's relationships, particularly with her Mother, have given her a robust and comic take on life.

Reviews

...a fascinating look at the life of a woman who appears to have a fixation with her bathroom... This endlessly gripping work is skilfully directed by Kim Gillespie, who also co-wrote this brief piece, which benefits from sound effects and original music... dramatic, poignant and surprisingly funny... You don’t feel like Rebecca Mahon is acting the role because she speaks from the heart, looking directly at the audience.
City Life
(Rating: 4/5)

55 minutes is a long time for one person to keep an audience engaged but Rebecca [Mahon] does so... the final scene brings tears to your eyes.
Sale and Altrincham Messenger
(Rating: 4/5)

...almost hits all the right marks but suffers from a consistently disappointing narrative that is uneven to say the least... we are continually taken into her memories and imagination. There is too much of this and it's distracting from the overall narrative. Louise’s motivation for her behaviour also lacks clarity... I found the conclusion plain ridiculous... [Rebecca] Mahon proves an engaging performer and has lovely clarity to her speech...
What's On Stage
(Rating: 2/5)

It can be difficult to watch Louise falling apart as she relives some haunting experiences... at times I would have liked to have seen more depth of emotion... some scenes are too hurried and the significance of some of the tales not explicit enough, occasionally reverting to mild humour or over use of unnecessary canned sound effects.Credit must be given to Rebecca Mahon for captivating the audience’s attention single handedly...
