North West Theatre

02 Dec 11 to 08 Jan 12
St Helens Theatre Royal

Come away with us to the mystical land of St Helens town centre for this glittering family pantomime, which stars master of illusions Richard De Vere as the evil Abanazer, with Coronation Street’s very own Andy McDonald, Nick Cochrane, as Aladdin.

Kev Seed from 102.4 Wish FM and will play the Laughing Policeman, whilst Radio City 96.7’s Claire Simonson flies in as Slave of the Ring.

...a real delight... Master of illusions, Richard De Vere is the ultimate panto villain... the first half is slightly too long... Some of the special effects in this production really are wonderful... The whole company numbers are particularly impressive...
What's On Stage (Rating: 4/5)
...the plot felt discordant, relying a bit too heavily on the audience filling in the gaps or not being too concerned about how the story played out... Nick Cochrane... was a bit old at 38 to be Aladdin, despite his boyish features... with Richard De Vere as the scheming Abanazer, they had a cracker... The flying carpet was brilliantly done... entertaining if not quite enthralling...
Liverpool Daily Post places this production feels as raggedy and careworn as its scenery... not without its rough-and-ready charms, personified by Nick Cochrane... the show belongs to illusionist Richard De Vere’s lugubrious Abanazer... a variable hit rate of gags - further marred by an unwelcome vein of homophobia...
